International Andritz Group www.andritz.com signed an agreement to acquire Pilão S.A. of Brazil, thus extending its product range for refiner plates and for conical refiner technology, and further expanding its presence in South America. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

Pilão S.A., with headquarters in São Paulo, specializes in low-consistency refining technology, including services and the manufacture of refiner plates.  It is particularly noted for small machines and its conical and disc refiner plate business. The company’s welded refiner fillings are especially focused on conical refiner needs. Pilão’s service business accounts for more than half of its total sales.

Pilão has a substantial installed base, including key customers in South America and Southeast Asia. The company, which has approximately 100 employees, has a production site in Brazil and will be integrated into the worldwide Andritz sales and services network. The acquisition of Pilão ideally supplements the Andritz Group’s product portfolio with welded and conical refiner plates as well as low-consistency refiners (triConic). The extensive services portion of Pilão fits with Andritz’s goal of expanding its service business to pulp and paper customers worldwide.
